Spread hope, 2020 Easter Message

We wish that Easter’s Good News “Jesus Christ is risen!” – “He is truly risen!”, may be in these times of COVID-19 “a different contagion”, the one that gives hope to every heart.

In Pope Francis words in his “Urbi et orbi Message Easter 2020”:

This is a different “contagion”, a message transmitted from heart to heart – for every human heart awaits this Good News. It is the contagion of hope: “Christ, my hope, is risen!”. This is no magic formula that makes problems vanish. No, the resurrection of Christ is not that. Instead, it is the victory of love over the root of evil, a victory that does not “by-pass” suffering and death, but passes through them, opening a path in the abyss, transforming evil into good: this is the unique hallmark of the power of God.

cirio pascualThe Message points out some priorities for this time which cannot be a time of indifference, selfishness, division or forgetfulness.

But these are the realities of our world that this crisis has not alleviated, but is aggravating. That is why courageous decisions are needed, which can range from daring to stop making weapons, condone debts, end violence, enmities and wars ... to welcoming refugees and immigrants, sheltering the homeless ...

We cannot miss the opportunity to show solidarity, even turning to innovative solutions, as Francis requested Europe. Access here to the Message.

Global ceasefire

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, had asked on March 23 for a global ceasefire:

“The fury of the virus illustrates the folly of war. End the sickness of war and fight the disease that is ravaging our world. That is why today, I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world. It is time to put armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives.”

The UN Secretary General, especially active in this world situation, knowing that on these dates the three monotheistic religions celebrate important festivals, has asked the leaders of all faiths:

“Today, I want to make a special appeal to religious leaders of all faiths to join forces to work for peace around the world and focus on our common battle to defeat COVID19”. “Let us renew our faith in one another”.
