This encyclical, Maite Uribe writes, “touches on something essential of the human being, our aspiration to fraternity, to live the common belonging to the same family and to dream of a single humanity in which we are all brothers. The Teresian Association wants to contribute and is committed to building that new humanity by weaving diversity, dialogue, inclusion and equality.”.
Fratelli tutti, was made public on October 4, the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. The Pope chose to sign it the day before in the place where the saint's remains rest. “This saint of fraternal love, simplicity and joy, who inspired me to write the Encyclical Laudato Si’, prompts me once more to devote this new Encyclical to fraternity and social friendship. Francis felt himself a brother to the sun, the sea and the wind, yet he knew that he was even closer to those of his own flesh. Wherever he went, he sowed seeds of peace and walked alongside the poor, the abandoned, the infirm and the outcast, the least of his brothers and sisters.” the Pope writes.
In presenting the letter, Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Paroli stated that the Encyclical does not limit itself to considering fraternity as an instrument or a desire, but rather the new Encyclical “outlines a culture of fraternity to be applied in international relations.”.
Maite Uribe, in her letter of thanks, dated on October 7th, asks “the Father of all, that his sons and daughters know how to find and travel the concrete paths that contribute to building a more just and fraternal world in our daily, institutional and political relationships.”.
