Serving the catholic laity associations in Italy

ROME, Italy

The Permanent Council of the Italian Bishops Conference CEI has appointed Maddalena Pievaioli, member of the Teresian Association, new General Secretary of the CNAL, National Consultation di Aggregazioni Laicali, National Consultation of the Lay Associations, on the 22nd of May.

Logo cnal2 150x150maddalenaThe Permanent Council of the CEI has given Maddalena Pievaioli the task, for five years, to coordinate this ecclesial body that reunites and represents 69 associations of the Italian Catholic world. The CNAL's task is to promote knowledge and collaboration between the different associations, in view of an increasingly incisive presence in the life of the country and of the Church in our time. Furthermore, it is “a place where they (the associations) live in a united way the relationship with the Italian Episcopate, offering them the richness of their apostolic possibilities, welcoming and carrying out pastoral programs and indications” (Article 1 of the Statute of the CNAL).

The General Secretariat works in close collaboration with the Steering Committee composed of 12 members: 7 appointed by the Assembly, the president of the Italian Catholic Action and 4 who will be appointed by the IEC shortly.

We wish to the Consulta and to Maddalena, a fruitful work, capable of making visible the style of closeness and synodality that Pope Francis asks and, with San Pedro Poveda, the invitation to “begin by doing”.

Informs: TA in Italy.
