SEVILLA, España.
At the request of the Archdiocese of Seville, on Saturday, May 26, 2012, on the Eve of Pentecost, a relic of Victoria Díez was placed inside the Cross of the new evangelization in the Cathedral of Seville. “It is impressive to think that Victoria Díez is close to other saints and Blessed of Seville in the thrust for a new evangelization and that her relic stays permanently inside the cross.”
This Cross that has presided over the renewal that started in the Lay Assembly of Seville 2007 and that contained, until now, the relic of St. Santa Ángela de la Cruz. Together with the relic of Victoria Díez, other relics of other Blessed, witnesses to the faith, have been placed: D. Marcelo Spínola, D. Manuel González and Mother María de la Purísima of the Compañía de la Cruz.
The ceremony started at 8:00 PM on Saturday with a procession inside the Cathedral of Seville. A group of lay people from Seville carried the Cross and the people that carried the relics to be presented to the Archbishop, D. Juan José Asenjo Pelegrina, who placed them inside the Cross, followed them. The following members of the Teresian Association carried the relic of Victoria: Carmen Azaustre, Matilde Carrero, Mª Encarnación González, Celes Molinillo, and Cándida Nieto.
It was impressive when the Cross, with the presence of men and women who have given witness to their faith in the Church, was raised. For the Teresian Association the Cross means strength, power and treasure, according to the thinking of St. Pedro Poveda. The crucifix is for the members of the Association “their treasure,” as it was for Victoria Díez. She knew and internalized the desire of Pedro Poveda to be transformed into a crucifix, to be a living crucifix.
The feast of Pentecost, which is a “symbol in the Church of Seville of joyful announcement of the Gospel,” was the framework for the celebration.
