BARCELONA, Spain.
Pedro Poveda's name was written on a stained glass window of the Holy Family Basilica in Barcelona.

0513-1Fr. Lluis Bonet Armengol is the person responsible for this.  He is a member of the staff of Holy Family Basilica and he knows St. Pedro Poveda and the Teresian Association, especially through his association with “Pasaje” Center in Barcelona.

It is traditional to include names or figures in the windows of the basilica designed by architect Antoni Gaudi but, generally, this is done at the request of religious groups or parishes. In this case it was Fr. Lluís Bonet Armengol, iconography manager, the one who wanted to engrave the name of Poveda.

Location of the stained glass window

The window with the inscription "P. Poveda" may be found on entering the temple through the door of the Passion, on the right, next to the diocese of Solsona Barcelona, Girona and Vic, in the windows dedicated to the Diocese of Granada.

The iconography of the stained glass windows

On the sides of the basilica are sets of windows dedicated to Spanish autonomous communities, with names of shrines and saints, sorted by diocese.

Each set consists of a stained glass rose window as well as long and circular windows. In the rosette are engraved shrines of different dioceses and on the circular windows, names of saints of each diocese.

In the Diocese of Granada, among others, is the name of Pedro Poveda, who shares the window with M. Carmen González Ramos, founder of the Franciscan Religious Institute of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The stained glass window of Pedro Poveda is in space 83 in the following sketch of the window:0513-4

0513-3The stained glass windows: symphony of color and light

The painter Joan Vila-Grau was commissioned by the Building Board of the Holy Family Basilica to do all the windows of the temple. The objective of Joan Vila-Grau is to develop a symphony of color and light, fulfilling the desire of Gaudí: "The Temple of the Holy Family will be light ... it will be the temple of harmonious light". The windows designed by Vila-Grau invite us to enter into the magic of color and light made poetry.
