The beginning of the Academic Year at Pedro Poveda School in Jaén has been special because, along with the presence of Teresian Association (TA) in this city, it celebrates the first centenary of the Academy of Santa Teresa, founded by St. Pedro Poveda. It marks the beginning of the presence of the Association in Andalusia.
On September 19, the beginning of the Academic Year 2013-2014, the educational community of Pedro Poveda School celebrated the anniversary with the Eucharist. People were grateful for the 100 years of life-giving presence of the TA in Jaén.
The management team of the school reports that the 100th anniversary is an event that has been prepared since the end of last year. "We have thought and dreamed together about the celebration of this centenary, which is a gift, commitment and responsibility. We want this to be a time of renewal of our Christian and Teresian vocation and renew our pedagogy, "based on love," to move forward in the building of the Kingdom of God through education and culture."
"We live this time as a gift because we can keep dreaming and realizing the dream of Pedro Poveda: ‘100 years making his dream a reality' is our motto. We live it as a commitment to continue the work that Pedro Poveda and Josefa Segovia began, along with some women who trusted God for the work. Also, we know ourselves responsible for continuing the task, not only for us but for the entire city of Jaén," they say.
They answer the question: How will we make Pedro Poveda’s dream a reality in today’s school? "During this academic year we will continue making that dream come true, a dream that made possible, ‘that everyone give all the good they can give.’ Everyone worked together because ‘all of us have to cooperate’ and do so with a particular way of working: ‘placing God in the heart.’ We want to work especially on our identity and on the pedagogical renewal. We will try to share this with the entire educational community, with the TA in Jaén, and with individuals and groups in our city."
Finally, using the lyrics of a popular song of the Teresian Association, the management team concludes: "To Pedro Poveda, who was a dreamer, we ask this year that he may allow us to dream his idea. He, who made the dream a reality, may accompany us to continue dreaming it, living it, and singing it."
