TERUEL, Spain.

On January 20, Fr. Agustín Fernández Buj, a tireless pastor in Teruel and a friend of the Teresian Association from his youth, passed away. This article is a grateful remembrance of a good man, a man of God.  Mar Solanes writes about him from Teruel.

It has been a week since Fr. Augustín was taken to Eternal Life.  We were left behind without words, crying in silence, but the memory of his closeness made his absence more bearable.

From the early morning the Cathedral was being filled with friends.  There were many of us who wanted to be there with him, with his family in the last farewell.

A hundred priests and four bishops concelebrated the Eucharist, which was presided by Bishop Carlos Escribano of Teruel.  Frs.  Antonio Algora, Jose Manuel Lorca, and Victorio Oliver joined us at this mass of Thanksgiving,

0128-1The words of Bishop Escribano in his homily calmed us all.  They brought to us the presence of Augustin, as he really was "eminently human and all God’s, able to love everyone, to enjoy everything, to live always in the joy that makes faith fruitful and spreads happiness.”

He spoke especially about the love he had for his family, young people, priests, and his land. He recalled how meaningful it was for Fr. Agustín to participate in the Event at Covadonga in 2011, and the gratitude he felt for having crossed his path with Fr. Pedro Poveda and the Teresian Association from very early in his life.

1945 - 2014, a story to remember, a life to be grateful for, a gift for all and for each. We take comfort in the knowledge that he already enjoys the Father;  that, hugged by Him, he will continue to accompany people, enjoying youth, sharing the Word and the Bread of the Eucharist, celebrating life in every event, encouraging church groups.

Fr. Agustín ... from Teruel, friend, priest, pastor, and prophet.  May he rest in peace and accompany us always.
