MALAGA, Spain
"The canonization of John XXIII and John Paul II today, Sunday April 27, at St. Peter’s Square, is a special event and so I invite you, members and friends of the Teresian Association, to thank the Lord.
They are two personalities of our time, close in history and whom many of us have known in one way or another. But what is most important is that both of them have collaborated in transforming the face of the Church. Each of them, in their own way, has helped to show that the Christian message is a message that humanizes, an open message to believers and unbelievers because it is a message of love and hope. John XXIII, with the surprising call of a Council, favored dialogue and openness of the Church to the world. He sensed and stirred great changes, the fruits of which we are still collecting and recognizing.
John Paul II, the tireless traveler of the Good News, knew how to stir in young people excitement and enthusiasm for the message of Jesus. He was the Pope that convened a Day of Prayer for Peace in Assisi, with 130 representatives from 12 major world religions, and the one who visited the Synagogue of Rome and the Damas Mosque, among many other initiatives.
Let us learn from them the evangelical boldness, the lucid and discerning eye so needed to open ways to the gospel, and the excitement and hope for the changes that the mission may ask of us.
