On August 12 we remember Victoria Díez, teacher and catechist, a member of the Teresian Association who lived and died confessing her faith in Jesus Christ in Hornachuelos (province of Cordoba, Spain) in 1936. Pope John Paul II beatified her in 1993 in Rome.
Victoria Diez y Bustos de Molina was born in Seville on November 11, 1903 and died confessing her faith on August 12, 1936, in Hornachuelos, Córdoba.

Memory and Gratitude
Pope John Paul II, today a saint, at the time of thanksgiving during the celebration of the beatification of Victoria Díez and Pedro Poveda in Rome on October 10, 1993, said about the first:
"The young Martyr Victoria Díez y Bustos de Molina is a first fruit of holiness of the Teresian Association, in which she made her vocation of surrender to God. With a deep interior life and dedicated to the apostolate, she came to be all things to everyone. She lived her teaching profession as a mission, promoting human and Christian formation of people at all levels. By living her faith in the everyday life, she manifested the uniqueness of the lay vocation, of which later on Vatican II stated: ‘they (the laity) work for the sanctification of the world from within as a leaven. In this way they may make Christ known to others, especially by the testimony of a life resplendent in faith, hope and charity” (Lumen Gentium, 31).
Also Aránzazu Aguado, President of the Teresian Association, wrote in 1993:
"In Victoria Díez we find a real and embodied expression of what was Povedan intuition of holiness in the world: live out a mission according to the Gospel, impelled by the promptings of the Spirit and through educational and cultural mediations. Victoria, through her teaching profession, carried out this experience with a total surrender to Christ and, in Him, she gave herself to those whom God placed around her, especially her students and colleagues, her family, and those who were associated with her. A witness to the faith, she lived in beautiful simplicity an experience of vocational fullness as a member of the association of lay faithful founded by Pedro Poveda, the Teresian Association."
