SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic

Dr. Ángela (Margarita) Matos has received the National Pediatrics Award 2014 in the Dominican Republic, which the Dominican Society of Pediatrics awards each year to four medical professionals.

The winners were Drs. Luis Alam Lora, Rosario Pérez Féliz, Ángela (Margarita) Matos Imbert, and Rubén Darío Pimentel.

The award recognizes pediatricians who make outstanding contributions along the lines of social service, research, and education. 
The award ceremony took place in the Caryatids Hall at the National Palace.  The First Lady of the country, Mrs. Candy Montilla de Medina, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr. Freddy Hidalgo, and the President of the Dominican Society of Pediatrics, Dr. Rodolfo Soto Ravelo, gave the awards. Each winner received a plaque, a scroll, a pin and a monetary prize.


The president of the Dominican Society of Pediatrics, Dr. Rodolfo Soto Ravelo, said the award recognizes the good track record of the winners and recalled that it has been awarded since 2009.Dr. Angela (Margarita) Matos receives the award from the First Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Candy Montilla de Medina, accompanied by the President of the Dominican Society of Pediatrics, Dr. Rodolfo Soto Ravelo and the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Freddy Hidalgo.


The First Lady, Candy Montilla de Medina, said that they recognized pediatricians who, through their dedication to their work, contribute and support the development of pediatrics, based on solidarity, research and the scientific spirit, innovation, community work, humanism, dynamism and cooperation.

Dr. Ángela (Margarita) Matos, a pediatrician specialized in endocrinology with a long history in the city hospital of Santiago, is a member of the Teresian Association.
