HONAVAR, India.
The Indian Kurta Project for solidarity clothing has been registered as a non-profit organization and legalized business in Spain and Europe. The aim is to increase the sale of products and thus develop the project that started in India in 2008 to respond to the need for training, development and empowerment of rural women in Honavar coastal area, in the Southern state of Karnataka.
The Kurta Project is part of India’s NGO SARPI (Society for the Advancement of the Rural People of India) operating since 1978. SARPI (www.sarpi-india.org ) was established by the Teresian Association to foster the promotion and empowerment of women and community development in rural areas. The website www.ropasolidariakurta.com provides information about the project as well as a product catalog, which will be expanded.
It is a social project and synonymous with solidarity, universal spirit, emotion and positive energy. It is a merger of cultures, a virtual journey through colors, textures, designs and products that transport visitors and clients to remote corners where the items originate.
It is a bridge that connects rural, poor women with urban markets, thus creating the foundation for qualified sustainable rural employment. The purpose of the Kurta project is to improve the living conditions of these women - from the most discriminated groups in the Hindu caste system- to be economically self-sufficient through Indian tailoring and sewing of clothes and accessories that have demand in Indian and Western markets.

In order to achieve this, the project promotes training and comprehensive education of economically disadvantaged women from marginalized groups. They are trained to develop their skills to increase their job opportunities, even in private enterprises. Opportunities increase their financial resources to become financially independent and thus become agents of social development in their villages.
Thus women may have the opportunity to create their own economic resources and become financially independent, being agents of social development in their families, communities, and villages. After work hours they are exposed to courses, seminars and workshops on topics of personal and social development such as self-knowledge, communication, leadership, social participation and teamwork, nutrition and health, environment, gender equality, etc.
The meaning of the logo
Kurta Project has a butterfly in its logo because the butterfly is a symbol of life that represents a metamorphosis, a metaphorical transition of something waiting to be reborn and fly. It is the ability of people to develop their potential, seeking integration and a more fulfilling life.
It is a symbol of transformation, representing the need for change and greater freedom and courage. The butterfly changes from crawling on the ground to flying in the blue sky with a sense of freedom and lightness. It is the perfect symbol of transformation into life and new energy.
It is symbolic of the journey between worlds in search of knowledge across borders and with our own life experiences that enrich us.
It is an opportunity for people to grow, learn ... a symbol of progress, as the cocoon is always oriented towards clarity and sunlight.
The butterfly is a symbol of joy, beauty, and lightness, of the ephemeral but also of immortality, rebirth and resurrection.
It is symbolic of people’s "rebirth" to transcend their physical limitations and rise in the light of the universe through their own spiritual transformation.
Welcome to the butterfly process in order to fly freely. And thanks for supporting this project through:
