On Sunday May 31, a healthcare Center opened in the town of Codao, in the area of Peumo, Chile, to serve families in need. It is a social project of the Teresian Association in this country of America.
Construction of the Center began six months ago with the cooperation of the locals themselves, with contributions from the Teresian Association, friends and other collaborators. It provides health assistance to those living in rural areas and in the hills far from the urban area: Cerro Codao, Rosario, Rosario Cerro, and LasTurbinas,
"The process that led to the opening of the Center began two years ago as we were engaged in small actions for the good health of those we know that are very much needed. And the Lord has been guiding and leading us by the hand..." says Carmen Pinto, from Chile.
"At the beginning we used a small house with 2 bedrooms. The owner, Teresita, offered it generously so that doctors Patricia and Sandra could attend lovingly to patients, families with several children," she added.
Approximately 35 patients are attended to. They also receive free medicines, thanks to the donation from some laboratories. The doctor visits take place on the last Saturday of each month.
After a start-up period, several families were asked to provide feedback about the usefulness of the Center. They were very grateful for the initiative since for them access to a hospital or health center is not easy because of the distance, lack of transportation and the difficulty to be helped due to the lack of space availability and hours of operation.
At the opening of the facilities, a local deacon blessed the new health care center, and said "the greatness of God was manifested in the realization of something as vital as health care for local families." Teresita’s family, neighbors, members of the Teresian Association, the daughters of Mary Servant of Codao, and friends participated.
"We are happy and grateful to those who have worked and who have prayed for the project. Start by doing ... Father Pedro Poveda said. The Lord works miracles," said Carmen Pinto on behalf of those who take care of the new Center.
