In a beautiful ceremony that brought together politicians, educators from various places, family, friends, and the educational community of the Teresian School, Angela Maria de Lacerda Corrêa received the highest recognition from the city of Rio de Janeiro on May 9: Pedro Ernesto Merit Medals for her work as a teacher and educator.
She has taught for 50 years, 40 of them devoted tirelessly to the Teresian School. Also, Angela Correa, a member of the Teresian Association, has worked in several public schools till her retirement, serving the education of young people in disadvantaged regions of Rio de Janeiro. Committed to the Socio-educational Proposal of the Teresian Association, she also contributed to reflection and teacher training, and to the political arena. She also devoted herself to social and evangelizing work with handicapped young people, prisoners, Youth Ministry and Women in Biblical circles.
On the occasion of this recognition some Teresian qualities of Angela that were evident in her educational work were highlighted: joy, study, dedication to the youth, a deep interior life centered in her prayer; her heart,"large as the sands of the sea", such as the one of Saint Teresa, capable of sacrifice and much love, without measuring the cost; her goodness "always finds something to give"; her ability for team work.
Finally, we can apply to Angela Corrêa an expression of Pedro Poveda: "truth is in the works, not in words ... Actions, yes, they testify on our behalf and speak eloquently about who we are.”
