Once again this year Padre Poveda School in Guadix will offer a Social Summer School for fifty children, ages 4-10, who are at risk for exclusion. The article was published by the digital newspaper El Ideal of that city.
"The Social Summer School which in 2013, 2014 and 2015 was managed by Imara, a project of the Teresian Association in Cuatro Veredas, will be held this year managed by the Education and Culture organization (which is a continuation of Imara) through a cooperation agreement with the city of Guadix. It was presented this morning by the mayor of the city, Inmaculada Olea Lagua, and Ana Caba on behalf of the Teresian Association.
Classes will begin on Monday, July 4. Fifty children from the neighborhoods of the Caves of Guadix, aged between 4 and 10 years, who are at risk for social exclusion, will participate. The project has always received funding from the Bureau of Equality, Health and Social Policies and, although this time there was an error in processing, this has not prevented its development thanks to the willingness of both the City Council and the Teresian Association.
As explained by Inmaculada Olea Laguna, the overall objective of this project is to improve the health and education of children with limited financial resources residing in the neighborhood of the Caves of Guadix with three goals:
- Meet the basic food needs of children from families in precarious economic situations during the school vacation period.
- Complement, through non-formal education, the acquisition of basic educational skills and the development of other skills and abilities.
- Promote positive attitudes of confidence, fellowship, respect towards themselves and towards others, collaboration and teamwork, responsibility, and fairness.
The project is carried out with the participation of Social Services. In fact, the Social Services Department is the one who selects and prepares a list of families whose children are beneficiaries of this program because of their scarce resources. The Summer School takes place at Padre Poveda School of Cuatro Veredas.
Ana Caba appreciated the contribution and support of the City and highlighted the importance of this project that offers three meals (breakfast, lunch and snack) to fifty participating children as well as education and fun in a holistic manner. "
