LOS NEGRALES, Madrid, Spain.
The liturgical celebration of the feast of Saint Pedro Poveda was celebrated at Santa Maria Spirituality Center in Los Negrales on July 28, 2016, eighty years after his martyrdom. That was a time of intolerance in Spain.
The auditorium where the Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated was filled well before the appointed time. The presider was Fr. Jose Luis Diaz, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Villalba, and several priests concelebrated with him.
The celebration began with some references to the life of St. Pedro Poveda, read by Loren Lozano, director of the Santa Maria Spirituality Center in Los Negrales. Everything was done with harmony in an atmosphere of joy, songs, prayers, and offerings.
The main celebrant spoke focusing on the question: What is to succeed in life? He referred to the martyrdom of Saint Pedro Poveda and stated that it was was a triumph from the perspective of faith and the continuity of his educational and evangelizing proposal through the Work he founded, the Teresian Association. He said that Poveda is "one of the saints who has much to say to our time."
He added that today we perceive too much violence in the world. Christians have had to have our feet on the ground ... and look at how many times we try to fix things with violence.
Poveda's life was a success because he placed Jesus in the center.
When he saw the beautiful film that was made about Poveda’s life, he was struck by the dialogue between Poveda and the militiaman (Felipe). Even though this dialogue was fictional, it reminds us that St. Pedro Poveda discovered the great art of bringing out the best of any person he was with. He lived meekness as a gift. He knew that the path to peace begins with dialogue, formation, and knowing what we live for. As the apostle Paul expresses "He believed and therefore he spoke...” He did not flee, was not afraid, and gave his life to build a peaceful world without violence having the person of Jesus as the center.
After the Mass participants joined in the singing of the Rumba in honor of Pedro Poveda.
This was followed by the presentation of Volume II of the Critical Edition of the works of St. Pedro Poveda "Ensayos y Proyectos Pedagógicos," edited by Narcea.

Soundtrack of the film "Poveda"
As part of the celebration, the soundtrack of the film POVEDA, composed by Oscar Martin Leanizbarrutia, was also available for purchase. The film premiered on March 4 in Spain and remained in movie theaters for more than seven weeks, being very well received by the public.
