The President of the Teresian Association, Maite Uribe, has communicated the death of Angeles Galino Carrillo, Professor of History of Education at Universidad Complutense, member of the Academy of Doctors of Spain, Correspondent of Moral and Political Sciences, and President of the Teresian Association from 1977 to 1988.
Angeles Galino Carrillo was the first woman to be appointed to a professorship in a Spanish university through public competition. She was Director-General of secondary and vocational education in 1970. Between 1977 and 1988 she served as President of the Teresian Association. She is recognized for her contributions to education and the Church through her many publications, presentations at meetings and conferences in various countries. She was appointed as observer in 1987 on the Bishop's Synod about Vocation and mission of laity in the Church and the world.
Maite Uribe, President of the Teresian Association wrote today: "With deep sorrow I inform you that today, Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Madrid, our dear Angeles Galino has rested in the Lord at the age of 98.
Angeles was living in the Josefa Segovia Residence, Madrid, where she spent the last years of her life, along with other members of the Association. Her health had visibly weakened lately. Her serene disposition and grateful attitude that characterized her remained steadfast to the last moment.
I don’t need to add much to what we all know regarding what Angeles is and has been for the Association, society and the Church. Besides her distinctive guidance, she has left a legacy of spirit, virtue and Teresian spirit that will always be an example and guide for us as we live the Teresian vocation. Her faithful love for Saint Pedro Poveda and Josefa Segovia as well as her love for the Association, in its membes and all its life, her unconditional surrender, become today a strong incentive to renew our sense of belonging and our way of being and living in this time of so much searching.
In this time of great hope and of welcoming the gift of God for His Church and for the world, we are reminded of many unmistakable gestures of this President of the Association who guided us to Jesus Christ who ‘loved the church and gave himself for it."
The Eucharist will be celebrated in thanksgiving for her life this evening at 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home at M30 in Madrid. Burial will take place tomorrow in San Lorenzo Cemetary. The funeral procession will leave the Funeral Home at 12:50 PM.
