ALCOY, Spain.
With the motto "Get excited! Take care of Bolivia," José Arnauda School, in Alcoy, held its Solidarity Week from January 26-30, 2015.
This initiative involved the entire educational community with the aim of broadening horizons to look at multiculturalism and, through this, increase awareness of the importance of solidarity and of caring for people and cultures both locally and globally. The training materials were prepared by NGO InteRed for the campaign, "Act with care: Emotional and Social Care."
There were some workshops tailored to each level presenting how to take care of needs, becoming aware of one’s emotions and those of others, and to promote the right to education, health and wellness. They also tried to visualize and value care as essential for sustaining life and societies.
In order to raise money, various activities were conducted: Solidarity Lunch and snack solidarity for which families provided food (bread rolls, cakes, pizzas, etc.)
Also money was collected through a class "piggy bank," a solidarity raffle and, this year, a performance by solidarity artists.
The money collected by the entire educational community was given to InteRed’s Education Project in Bolivia, where they help provide schooling for underprivileged children.
The week ended with the celebration of Peace Day. A march for peace was held together with other schools in the same area of the city, with students carrying a symbol.
