AVILA, SPAIN.
On March13, 2015, Teresa’s Space was inaugurated in Ávila in the presence of more than a hundred people.
Among the attendees were the Bishop of Avila, Jesús García Burillo; José Manuel Sánchez Caro, former Rector of the Pontifical University of Salamanca and former Rector of the Catholic University of Avila; Francisco Javier Sancho, Director of the International Centre on St. Teresa and St John of the Cross (CITES); Jerzy Wojciech, Secretary of CITES; a Councilor of the Culture Department representing the Mayor of the city, Mª Sonsoles Sánchez-Reyes; alumnae of the Teresian Association, friends and the local press "Diario de Ávila".
Abrió el acto la representante de la Institución Teresiana en Castilla, Araceli Ortega, quien tras dar la bienvenida al público allí concurrido, celebró la elección de esta ciudad para poner en marcha el Espacio Teresa;
A representative of the Teresian Association in Castille, Araceli Ortega, opened the event. After welcoming the people present, she applauded the fact that this city was selected for Teresa’s Space. She also expressed her gratitude to the people living in the house that have so kindly provided the facilities for this event.
Then Carmen Azaustre, chair of the Committee on the V Centenary of St. Teresa of the Teresian Association, spoke some words about the event and thanked the team that made this possible: Itziar Aguinagalde, Maria Angeles Merín, Marisa Rodriguez, and EnPieza, the agency responsible for the set up. She concluded by encouraging those present to visit the exhibit.
Itziar Aguinagalde, a member of the Committee on the V Centenary, referred to the meaning of the event: " Teresa’s Space welcomes us with its doors wide open for an encounter with her (Teresa) that will not leave us indifferent." It is an invitation to "contemplate the attitudes she had in her historical moment. The V Centenary is for this: to commit ourselves to live the values that shaped her life in the here and now "
She then invited us to begin the visit of the Space wishing to take with us something new that has the mark of St. Teresa of Jesus.
The Bishop of Avila closed the ceremony. He stressed the role of Saint Teresa in the diocese, "I have already written four letters in honor of Saint Teresa,” he said. And he "welcomed this new Teresian opportunity in the city."
Then visitors began the tour through Teresa’s Space; they could see interesting videos relating Saint Teresa and the Teresian Association, go over publications of various kinds, and pause to listen to prayer and silence.
The event ended with an opportunity to share refreshments and fellowship.
In Madrid
Teresa’s Space in Avila will be open until April 9. Then it will be moved to Madrid where it will be inaugurated on April 21. It will be open to the public from April 22-May 10.
