CIUDAD RODRIGO, Spain.
The life of Pedro Poveda, Spanish priest, educator, and a pioneer in promoting the rights of women since the dawn of the twentieth century, will be brought to the big screen by Goya Productions in co-production with Three Columns Entertainment. The film will be shot in April and May in Madrid, Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca, Guadix, and the Sanctuary of Covadonga. Filming will begin on April 15 in Ciudad Rodrigo, and it will continue in Guadix, Covadonga, Madrid, and Salamanca.
The film covers the life of Poveda from his struggle to educate children in the caves of Guadix until his death in the early days of the Civil War on July 28, 1936. Fr. Poveda is seen as an innovator who, amid the dramatic situation in Spain at that time, promotes the modernization of education and brings women to a prominent role.
Pedro Poveda Castroverde was the founder of the Teresian Association, an International Association of Catholic Laity which aims to contribute to human and social development through education and culture, participating in the evangelizing mission of the Church. Pope John Paul II canonized Saint Pedro Poveda on May 4, 2003, during his visit to Spain.
Pablo Moreno will direct the film. Raúl Escudero, Elena Furiase, Daniel Gómez, Miguel Berlanga, Pablo Viña, and Xiqui Rodríguez will play starring roles within a diverse cast.
